Create Project Folder

After you download the Docusar ZIP file, you need to create a dedicated folder for your project and extract the template correctly.

Step 1: Create a New Project Folder​

Create a new folder where you want to store your documentation site.

Best locations:

  • Desktop: Easy to find
  • Documents: More organized
  • D:\Projects\ or C:\Users\YourName\Desktop\

How to create it:

Windows:

  1. Go to the Desktop
  2. Right-click → New → Folder
  3. Name it with your project name. Use lowercase, no spaces. Examples:
    • docusar-docs
    • my-docs-site
    • docusa

Mac:

  1. Go to the Desktop
  2. Right-click → New Folder
  3. Name it the same as above

Important naming rules:

  • Do not use spaces: Use my-docs not my docs
  • Use lowercase: Use docusar not Docusar
  • Keep it short: 1-2 words is ideal

Example final path:

Windows: C:\Users\YourPCName\Desktop\docusar
Mac: /Users/YourName/Desktop/docusar

Step 2: Extract the Docusar ZIP​

Now extract the downloaded Docusar template into this new folder.

You downloaded a file like docusa.zip or docusar-template.zip from Gumroad.

Windows:

  1. Find your ZIP file (usually in the Downloads folder)
  2. Right-click the ZIP → Extract All...
  3. Click Browse and select your new folder Desktop\docusar
  4. Click Extract
  5. OR: Open the ZIP, select all files inside (Ctrl+A), Copy (Ctrl+C), go to Desktop\docusar, Paste (Ctrl+V)

Mac:

  1. Double-click the ZIP file to extract it
  2. Move the extracted files into your new project folder

What you should see inside the project folder after extraction:

After extraction, open the Desktop\docusar folder. You should see:

docusar/
├── data/               <- All JSON data for pages
├── docs/               <- Your documentation markdown files
├── src/                <- React components, pages, CSS
├── static/             <- Images, favicon
├── docusaurus.config.js
├── package.json
├── README.md
└── ...

If you see another folder inside like docusar/docusar/..., move all files one level up so package.json is directly inside your project folder, not nested.

How to check it is correct:

Open the folder and check if you can see the package.json file directly. If you see it, the extraction is correct.

If you see only one folder inside, open it - that is the real project root. Move it to the Desktop and rename it to docusar.
